Beautify Enhance Renew
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a non-surgical, FDA-approved treatment for fine lines and wrinkles such as crow’s feet and frown lines. Derived from the botulinum toxin A, this solution is injected into the facial muscles immobilizing them and smoothing out the skin. More than 6 million BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments are administered each year, making it one of the most popular procedures on the market.
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a quick, easy, and relatively painless procedure. It can easily be performed in an afternoon or even on your lunch break. Since it is non-surgical, there is virtually no recovery period. Over time, wrinkles may also appear smoother between treatments due to the weakening of the muscles.
Are You a Candidate for BOTOX® Cosmetic?
You may be a good candidate if:
- You are beginning to develop wrinkles and fine lines due to common facial expressions
- You prefer a procedure that is quick and has almost no recovery time
- You have realistic expectations about your results
- You are in generally good health
First, you will consult with your doctor about the best placement for your injectable treatment. While you lay back in a chair similar to a dentist’s chair, your doctor will use a small, thin needle to inject the BOTOX® Cosmetic proteins into individual muscles in the face. The procedure usually takes less than 15 minutes to complete, depending on how many injections are needed. Signals from facial nerves are blocked, which keeps the muscles from contracting. Some discomfort may be felt at the injection site; although, your doctor may choose to numb the treatment site if it is in a sensitive area.
Results and Recovery
You will begin to see results three to seven days after your treatment; final results are visible in two weeks. Results typically last from three to six months.
Some slight bruising may appear after treatment but should dissipate quickly. Some mild numbness or tingling may be present for a short time as well. After your injectable treatment, you may continue on with your day. Do not lie down for three to four hours afterward; additionally, do not rub or massage the treatment site for 12 hours following your procedure.
BOTOX® is also FDA approved to treat conditions such as hyperhidrosis, overactive bladder, lazy eye, and chronic migraines.
