Sclerotherapy

Beautify Enhance Renew

Sclerotherapy

The formation of spider and varicose veins can negatively impact your confidence and self-esteem. These unwanted veins often appear as blue, red, and purple clusters on the legs and are difficult to hide when you want to wear shorts, dresses, or bathing suits. Although spider and varicose veins are harmless, they can be unsightly. Sclerotherapy offers relief from this with the injection of a solution that disrupts and destroys the vein. With this treatment, you can attain flawless, confidence-boosting legs that are free from unsightly veins.

Benefits of Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy can benefit patients who feel that their small varicose or spider veins are:

  • Negatively impacting their confidence levels
  • Causing aching, burning, or swelling
  • Preventing them from being able to wear the clothing they wish to wear

Candidates

Both men and women suffer insecurities caused by the appearance of unsightly spider and varicose veins. Ideal candidates for sclerotherapy are in good overall health, at or near their ideal weight, non-smokers or willing to stop smoking before and after the procedure, and have realistic expectations of their results.

Procedure

To begin your sclerotherapy treatment, the target area is cleaned with alcohol and elevated. Then your doctor will inject the sclerotherapy solution directly into the unwanted vein with a very small needle. This solution destroys the inner lining of the vein, causing it first to swell and then collapse, preventing blood from flowing through it. The destroyed vein is eventually absorbed by the body and disappears. A sclerotherapy session typically takes between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the number of veins being treated. Most smaller veins only require a single treatment session. Larger varicose veins may benefit from multiple treatments.

Recovery and Results

After sclerotherapy, patients typically experience little to no discomfort or downtime. Patients can return to their day-to-day activities immediately following the treatment. However, you should have someone drive you home. We suggest that you refrain from any strenuous exercise or sun exposure for two weeks, as these can affect your recovery and the quality of your results. Temporary side effects of sclerotherapy include bruising, skin redness, and small skin sores. These typically dissipate within a few days. You may be asked to wear a compression garment for the first few days to aid the healing process.

Results of sclerotherapy are permanent. Most patients see results within three to six weeks; however, larger veins may require a more extended period for the results to show.

Potential Side Effects

Sclerotherapy is an effective and safe way to treat unwanted spider and varicose veins. Complications are rare and usually not life-threatening. You should seek medical attention if you experience an allergic reaction to the injected solution, inflammation, or blood clots.
