Microdermabrasion

Beautify Enhance Renew

Microdermabrasion

When paired together, aging and environmental factors can wreak havoc on the smooth, youthful quality of your skin. These factors cause collagen production to decrease and fine lines, pigmentation irregularities, enlarged pores, and age spots to appear. Microdermabrasion has long been used to refresh and rejuvenate dull,  environmentally damaged skin. This skin resurfacing treatment uses crystals to gently exfoliate and remove the damaged top layer of skin while promoting collagen production to reveal a healthy, radiant complexion with no downtime or discomfort. Microdermabrasion helps reduce the visible signs of aging and restores a lasting, youthful appearance. Contact Dr. Grazer in Newport Beach to learn more about the microdermabrasion procedure.

Procedure

Microdermabrasion is a multi-step process that includes cleansing, steam, a calming mask, and extraction. During your treatment, the minimally abrasive crystals are used to sand the top layer of your skin to remove dead skin cells and debris while stimulating new skin growth. The wand steams exfoliating crystals across your skin, and the vacuum suctions the crystals and dead skin cells from the surface. This procedure is comfortable, though you may experience a mild scratching feeling. Microdermabrasion treatments usually last around 50 minutes.

Recovery and Results

There is no downtime or recovery period associated with microdermabrasion. You may experience mild redness and swelling after the treatment that should subside within a few hours. It may be recommended that you apply special moisturizers or facial products to soothe the skin and enhance your results.

The results of your microdermabrasion treatment are noticeable as soon as the redness and swelling dissipate; however, this will improve over the following weeks as the skin heals and collagen production is stimulated. Repeated treatments are best for optimal results, and depend on the severity of the skin damage. Many patients receive a session once a month to maintain their results.

Potential Side Effects

Side effects and complications from microdermabrasion are rare, and when they do occur they are usually short lived. The most common side effect is slight redness from the suction procedure that may last for several days. Your skin will be more sensitive to the sun after your treatment for several days, so be sure to apply sunscreen generously and avoid strong sunlight whenever possible.
