Facelift Surgery in Newport Beach, CA

Beautify Enhance Renew

Eventually, we all develop the unfortunate signs of facial aging that tell us we are slowly getting older. Fine lines, wrinkles, deep folds, jowls, and displaced fat can be unpleasant physical reminders of our age.

Facelift surgery, or rhytidectomy, can improve common signs of aging on the face and neck by tightening facial muscles, repositioning fat, and removing excess fat.

What Are the Benefits of Facelift Surgery?

Erase Fine Lines and Wrinkles

The most common signs of aging are the development of fine lines and wrinkles. Sometimes the amount of anti-aging creams and lotions do not do the trick of erasing them. Facelift surgery reduces the sight of fine lines and wrinkles by repositioning the deep tissues and muscles.

Restore Facial Volume

As we age, collagen and elastin production slow. These are the structural proteins of our skin.  Without these proteins, our skin begins to sag and form wrinkles, and volume becomes displaced. Facelift surgery redistributes facial fat to restore balance and volume.

Improve Neck Laxity

Vertical banding, also called vertical neck bands, cause excess folds on the neckline that can make the base of your neck look nonexistent. Facelift surgery, which can be combined with a neck lift, can tighten the facial muscles and trim extra skin to restore definition in the lower part of your face.

What Will My Facelift Surgery Entail?

Consultation

Your consultation with Dr. Grazer is the first and most important step in prepping for your facelift surgery. It is at your consultation where Dr. Grazer will assess your facial anatomy to develop a fully customized surgical plan for you.

During your facelift consultation, you can expect Dr. Grazer to:

  • Assess your skin quality
  • Discuss the right facelift technique for you
  • Discuss your goals and expectations
  • Provide you with preoperative instructions

Procedure

Dr. Grazer, board-certified plastic surgeon, will perform the facelift surgery out of his Newport Beach office.

Dr. Grazer offers two variations of the facelift: traditional and mini facelift. He will recommend the best technique for you during your consultation

Traditional Facelift

For those who need extensive facial corrections, a traditional facelift, or standard facelift, can fully address all areas from the mid-face to the neck. The incisions are located behind the hairline, beginning at the temples, and extending around the front of the ear. Dr. Grazer will then reposition the deeper facial tissues and remove excess skin, which will smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.

Mini Facelift

A mini facelift, or limited incision facelift, will likely be recommended for patients who need less extensive facial corrections. This technique requires shorter incisions that tighten deeper facial tissue. The incisions are generally located along the hairline above each ear or in the natural folds surrounding the ears. A mini facelift can correct facial jowls, restore definition in the jawline, and rejuvenate the overall facial appearance.

Neck Lift

For patients with severe facial laxity, combining a neck lift procedure with their facelift will optimize the results. Neck lift surgery can tighten loose skin and erase vertical banding that develops on the neck. A harmonious facial appearance is achieved when patients undergo both facelift and neck lift surgeries.

Results

You will likely notice some improved facial contours immediately following your facelift surgery. Your results will continue to improve as the swelling and bruising subside. It may take two to three months for your face to feel normal again and for your full results to become apparent.

Do You Have Concerns About Facelift Surgery?

Recovery

Facelift surgery is performed using general anesthesia; therefore, you will likely feel groggy following the surgery. It is advised to have someone drive you home after the surgery. You may experience tightness, swelling, and bruising the first few days after the surgery. Bandages and cold compresses will help minimize swelling. While most activities can be resumed one week after surgery, strenuous activity should be avoided for four to six weeks or once cleared by Dr. Grazer.

You should adhere to the post-operative instructions Dr. Grazer gives you to ensure a smooth and speedy recovery process.

Scars

Scarring is likely to develop after any surgical procedure. These scars will fade with time and proper care, and they can be concealed easily. Silicone strips and gel will help the scars fade faster.

Cost

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the average cost of facelift surgery is $7,655.

You will be provided with a facelift surgery cost estimate during your consultation that will include anesthesia fees, facility fees, surgeon’s fees, pre-surgical tests, and post-surgical dressings.

Financing options are available through CareCredit™and ALPHAEON®.

  • Am I a candidate for facelift surgery?

You may be the right candidate for facelift surgery if you meet one or more of the following criteria:

    • You have severe facial skin laxity
    • You are bothered by fine lines and wrinkles
    • You practice healthy habits
    • You do not smoke
    • You have realistic expectations of the results
  • Which facelift technique is right for me?

The right facelift technique for you will depend on the amount of facial corrections needed.

Dr. Grazer will recommend the best facelift technique for you after examining your facial anatomy during your consultation.

  • What are the risks associated with facelift surgery?

Physical complications following facelift surgery are rare, but they are possible. These physical complications include:

    • Fluid accumulation
    • Numbness or other changes in skin sensation
    • Persistent pain
    • Unfavorable scarring
    • Prolonged swelling
    • Skin irregularities and discoloration
  • When can I return to work after facelift surgery?

Most patients can return to work within one to two weeks following facelift surgery.

Every patient recovers at a different rate, so it is important to allow yourself more time to recover if needed.

  • Are my facelift results permanent?

Although your facelift results are designed to last for years, they are not permanent. A facelift cannot halt the common signs of aging from occurring.

  • What procedures can I combine with my facelift?

Patients who wish to see a complete facial rejuvenation may decide to have additional procedures performed. Facelift surgery is often performed in conjunction with a neck lift (to reduce neck laxity), eyelid surgery (to rejuvenate upper and lower eyelids), or rhinoplasty (to improve the size and shape of the nose).
