Saline implants are filled with sterile saltwater, while silicone implants contain a cohesive silicone gel. The gel is designed to provide a consistency that more closely resembles natural breast tissue.

Patients with more existing breast tissue generally have greater soft-tissue coverage, which can make the implant less noticeable to the touch. Patients with thinner tissue coverage may be more likely to see or feel the edges of an implant.

What Do Breasts Feel Like After Breast Augmentation?
It is normal for breasts to feel firm, swollen, tight, or higher on the chest immediately after breast augmentation. The tissues are healing, and the implants may initially appear or feel different from the long-term result.
As swelling decreases and the tissues relax, the breasts generally become softer and settle into a more natural position. Patients sometimes refer to this process as “drop and fluff.”
The timing varies from patient to patient. Many patients notice significant changes during the first several weeks, while the breasts can continue to soften and settle over the following months.
